Data Center Design Evaluation Services

The objective of our Data Center Design Evaluation Services (DDES) is to evaluate the design of our client’s new / existing data center and its parameters that may affect its performance and availability. The evaluation is carried out with the intentions to:

  • Evaluate the design criteria to meet the objective of the client’s business requirements
  • Pro-active prevention of possible problems and risks during construction of the data center
  • Minimize the risk factors that potentially affect the performance and availability during the data center operations
  • Evaluate the data center maintenance options and complexity

Our team of data center professionals conducts the study to address the following five main critical design areas:

  • power layout and quality
  • racking system specifications and layout
  • environmental factors and dimensioning such as cooling, fire protection, monitoring of the data center
  • systems, storage & networks
  • operational security and safety

Working with our associate engineering companies, we provide professional data center design / build drawings and specifications for the construction of the client’s new, expanded, consolidated or relocated data center facility. Our data center design and construction documents include technical details, schedules, diagrams and specifications necessary to set forth the requirements for construction.

The guiding principles of our design philosophy provide for a modular, scalable approach in conjunction with the requirements of energy-efficient design. The result is a mission-critical environment that can grow with the demands of the business while minimizing its impact to the bottom line.

Our drawings address every aspect of the data center’s structural, electrical, mechanical, security and fire protection requirements. We also provide general specifications and contract provisions for all vendors and trade contractors. These instructions set forth the specific requirements for bid submission, award of contract, progress payments, change order applications, scheduling, quality control, start-up, testing, and as-built documentation, as well as operations and maintenance manual standards.

Assessment and Design

Our data center design / build team addresses every aspect of our clients’ mission critical facility. Assessment of client’s physical and functional requirements for setting up of data center is given top priority so that a fit-for-purpose, reliable and cost-effective solution is achieved. The assessment process leads to creation of master data center construction design and build plan which meets client’s requirements and is also within the budget and agreed timeframe. We also develop computer room design options for each sub-system with rough order of magnitude (ROM) pricing, benefits and redundancy features. Furthermore, our project plan ensures that each task is completed in the most practical and efficient order.

Relocation / Consolidation

Our data center team has the expertise to develop plans / schedules for data center relocation or consolidation projects. We fully understand the complexities of such a task, even if we are not the original builders of such a data center. Our in-depth knowledge and our network of national partners are qualified to successfully accomplish such a complex task. For downsizing or combining locations, we create detailed plan of implementation with key milestone dates and tasks. Our team takes into account all aspects which includes architectural, electrical, mechanical, communications, fire and life safety needs. If required, we work with hardware vendors to move and transport sensitive and delicate pieces of equipment, not ignoring any of the manufacturer’s warranty issues. Once a data center relocation or consolidation is complete, we carry out an exhaustive testing program, promptly returning the data center to normal operations state.

Engineering

We understand the requirements of mission critical facilities as well as engineering / construction needs and concerns of responsible ICT departments / decision makers. Mission critical facilities face challenges such as space requirements, power and cooling availability, and physical and operational disruption, among others. Priorities for ICT are high availability, highly reliability, efficiency, cooling and electrical systems that eliminate single points of failure. Our expertise will give you piece of mind to meet any engineering challenge of your data center.

Construction Management and Installation

Our team has a history of completing data center construction and installation projects on schedule and within budget. We credit our efficiency to our data center design / build team’s approach, integrated project planning, and years of experience our installation / construction managers. Our project plans ensure that tasks are completed in order and within the timeframes allocated for each deliverable. Throughout the data center installation project, we give utmost importance to safety, and quality practices to protect everyone involved in the project from any harm. Moreover, we also schedule our installation efforts to minimize disruptions to our clients in their day-to-day operations.

Electrical and Communications Systems

We provide full electrical and low voltage communications services for which we have qualified electricians who are industry experts in the installation of emergency stand-by generators, multi/single module UPS/Battery systems, diverse path electrical distribution systems, complete control wiring and grounding systems.

We also have trained technicians for designing and installing the most complex of fiber optic and copper network cabling installations. Our skilled staff is all qualified in thoroughly testing the installed network cabling.

Data Centre Commissioning

We understand the critical nature of post construction activities by checking the full operation of a facility’s pre-critical load, in-depth testing, record keeping and documenting the full operations, testing of induced faults and ensuring a seamless function of all components.

Cooling

Cooling is a component that is equally important as it relates to its electrical counterpart. Both systems have to work in harmony for a data center to function correctly. As servers continue to increase in heat output and with the deployment of blade servers the densities per cabinet have soared, due to this change there is a continual stress on the mechanical systems for a reliable cooling. To accommodate this pattern shift, mechanical systems need to be designed on a modular, scalable, flexible, and reliable basis, allowing data center users to deploy high-density systems with ease and confidence, not affecting the critical load.

We at, Acrux Technologies, incorporate the latest high-efficiency power cooling systems, because, selecting the right electrical / mechanical system is key in obtaining a lower PUE. Following are our typical system design considerations in this vertical:

  • CRAC Unit- both DX, Glycol, Water Cooled systems
  • IRC: In-Row air-conditioning
  • Outside air economizer
  • Rear door heat exchangers
  • Variable speed drives
  • Local management sensors
  • Containment
  • Hot/Cold aisle topologies

Space

We are well aware that the space selected for data center may affect the initial capital costs, workflow and flexibility to expand without affecting the critical load in the future. The data center space needs to allow for the functional requirements and allow for ease of operation, in addition, it needs to be flexible to adapt to the ever-changing data center requirements.

We take a focused approach when creating a modular and scalable data center with flexible space considerations. White-space with key support area’s such as staging, storage, loading areas, conference areas, support offices, security rooms, NOC’s etc., are all considered while adhering to the most up-to-date requirements. Our space management services take following requirements into the consideration:

  • Raised assess flooring
  • Building shell
  • Geographical consideration; flood, earthquake, hurricane, etc.
  • Modular architectures
  • Space planning
  • Structural considerations
  • Ext/Int. security issues
  • Work area, utility planning
  • Meet-me rooms
