Flight Information Display System

As the world moves towards automation to efficiently handle operations and distribute information, the need for a FIDS system at airports is at an all-time high. The FIDS system is designed to provide the airport management with automated controls to improve airport operations and upgrade the passenger experience by providing the most up to data flight information.

Brief Description

The FIDS system is a key component of an airport’s integrated operational systems and is directly connected to the Airport Operational Database (AODB) and Resource Management System (RMS). It is primarily used for the delivery of flight information, such as check-ins, departures, arrivals, etc. FIDS maintains an independent database, which receives real time updates via middleware linked with the airport operations database (AODB). After the flight information is processed, it updates in a real-time mode the display contents of FIDS equipment at various points of the passenger terminal building and releases promptly and accurately the latest real-time information of arriving and departing flights.

The closely coupled system allows for the automated displaying of critical information in an easy to understand manner. This system also provides visual paging for the hearing impaired and supports the display of weather information, promotional and advertising information.

Design

The FIDS design is comprised of a control center, socket server, screen clients, input terminals and display technology. The FIDS control center is responsible for storing, processing and transferring all data (flight and general information). The intelligent client screens will update the data in real-time to ensure that the passengers are supplied with the most accurate and current information provided by the airport management.

The FIDS system communicates and supports virtually all types of display devices such as CRT monitors, LCD flat panels, plasma displays, split flap boards and LED signage.

System Architecture and Features

What separates our FIDS system from others, is our robust system architecture. Our software is built on a multi-level architecture, supporting distributed processing over multiple servers. As a safety measure, the Redundant servers in the main/hot standby (load sharing) configuration ensure a zero-down time, in case any of the servers go down.

The FIDS main server runs on Fedora or Windows as the Operating System and MySQL as the RDBMS. The client screens are platform independent and run on Linux and Windows.
